This is a fully functional CuMai Copper Damascus Katana, handmade from start to finish.
A special thank you to Tyrell Knife for the katana design. He has been incredibly supportive of my work and helped me a lot throughout the process of making the CuMai Damascus. I really appreciate him sharing his knowledge and taking the time to help me improve the technique.
The sword has a 42” overall length with a 32” blade and 10” handle. The blade is made from CuMai copper Damascus, giving it a unique pattern and contrast after coffee etching.
The handle has a wooden core covered with black stingray skin (samegawa) and is traditionally wrapped with leather cord. The tsuba (鍔) is hand engraved and finished with copper inlay.
This isn’t just a display piece — it was made as a fully functional sword while keeping the aesthetics and craftsmanship of a traditional katana.
